Fira de Barcelona Pledges commitment to sustainability in the design of its function halls

01 August 2019

Barcelona, 1st August 2019. Fira de Barcelona has pledged to go one step further by organizing its events in line with sustainability and circular economy criteria. Forming part of its strategy towards the fulfilment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), it will begin applying sustainability principles to the BBConstrumat and Piscina Wellness Barcelona halls. Fira's aim is to convert these halls into zero waste venues, following in the steps of Smart City Expo World Congress.

Moving towards zero waste

With the advice of consultancy firm Lavola, part of Anthesis, Fira Barcelona will start by reducing single-use plastic, using PEFC-certified wood, avoiding carpeted floors or installing recyclable carpet, and donating food that is not consumed to Nutrition Without Borders, among other initiatives.

This criteria, already enforced in the Smart City Expo and Barcelona Building Construmat, will also be intensified in the next editions of these halls, whilst changes planned for Piscina & Wellness Barcelona include reusing water from the exposed pools and collecting excess paper.
